1 Answers: How do I invest/find municipal bonds?

Hi Everyone,

I am currently invested in 80% stocks, 10% REITS, 10% bond funds. I have mix of 401k, 457b, IRÁ, Roth IRA, and taxable account (through Merrill lynch) I would like to invest more in Municipal bonds, especially for the tax benefits. My understanding is it is best to invest in your state to reduce tax burden. I guess my question is where do I find these municipal bonds? I searched through my own broker but didn’t find much….

  1. You may want to rethink your position. Very risky right now being so invested in stocks. Even futures. With 80% of your portfolio in stocks you could be in for a very nasty surprise if the market tanks and we are in for the next financial crisis.

Municipal bonds are likely a safer bet, alongside treasury bonds because technically they are backed by the US government. The only problem is when you have government which is so heavily in debt that it could become insolvent then that may be at risk too.

There is a lot of problems in this market right now which is why you see the likes of Warren Buffett and other hedge fund managers and big money makers running for cover. Getting out of stocks and into safe bets like precious metals.
