I would like more understanding about my legal rights as a owner of shares in a company.

As a shareholder if you own common stock which is likely, then those rights include voting power in major issues, ownership of a portion of a company, the right to transfer ownership and entitlement to dividends, which is something we will look at another lesson, the opportunity to inspect corporate books and records, and the right to sue for wrongful acts.

    Something important to know is that the larger amounts of shares that a shareholder owns, the more influence he or she has within the company, so they basically have a greater say in the decision-making process. Shareholders will also attend shareholder meetings where key decisions are made.
