0 Answers: Why do cities have parking meters, when there are so many businesses and stores to collect sales taxes from?
Much of it is to enforce time limits. The fees help to pay for parking officials who are needed since there are so many selfish people who would break the law without them.
Without time limits, people would park there for extended amounts of time to do other things than shop at those businesses and stores. The result is that people who want to shop are not able to and the stores go out of business.
